Partner used Corent’s MaaS for scanning and assessing the customer’s datacenter for Microsoft Azure migration feasibility and generated reports to help them develop a strategic Cloud migration plan.

Project Overview:

The customer’s environment had a single datacenter, comprising over 600 servers. The complete environment was scanned and analyzed using six Vanguard (bridge) servers to generate Cloud feasibility reports.

Benefits:

  • Vanguard servers used for agentless and extended performance scans.

  • Extended performance scan collected data inventory to identify the utilization data.

  • MaaS reports offered deeper insights into migration to Microsoft Azure.

  • Based on dependency mapping, grouping could be done as a precursor to migration.

Energy Firm

Assessment for Microsoft Azure Migration

The customer is a leading solar energy solutions provider across Europe. The customer approached one of Corent’s partners seeking expert advisories on migration strategies. The partner performed incisive scans and derived optimum migration reports to help the customer to chart out its migration course.

Corent’s partner used MaaS to deliver Cloud assessment services to its customer. The partner scanned and assessed the customer’s datacenter using MaaS and generated detailed reports. The reports on migration feasibilities for the datacenter and its servers were shared with the customer.

Challenges:

  • Initiating a scan without an agent.
  • Mapping the dependency between servers and identifying the inter-server communications.
  • Tracing the performance metrics of the entire infrastructure.
  • Conducting a cost analysis and charting out an optimum feasibility report.
  • Identifying the migration plan for End of Life (EOL) servers.

Solution:

  • MaaS used agentless approach through Vanguard servers to get the complete information about the customer’s environment.
  • MaaS retrieved the communication ports along with process information and ID, based on which inter-server dependencies were identified.
  • Extended performance scan spanning a fortnight helped to capture the performance metrics of the infrastructure, based on which the equivalence match was calculated for rightsizing.
  • Report generated by MaaS provided sufficient information on TCO; MaaS also delivered relevant advisories for better migration planning.
  • MaaS suggested migration of EOL servers to Azure West Europe either by changing to a newer version or through PaaS or container services available on Cloud.

Result:

By using MaaS, the partner helped the customer to analyze their datacenter and formulate an optimum migration strategy for Microsoft Azure West Europe.
