The partner used Corent’s MaaS to evaluate their datacenters for AWS migration feasibility and develop a strategic Cloud migration plan suitable for their business.

316 servers, a mix of both virtual (VMware) and physical servers, were running on 4 datacenters within the US. These Windows and Linux servers were scanned using 4 Vanguards, one for each datacenter, to generate Cloud feasibility reports for AWS migration.

Assessment for AWS Migration

One of the Corent's strategic partners in Cloud Assessment and Migration is a leading global technology services company. Working with organizations around the world, the partner achieves business outcomes through intelligent technology solutions. It provides end-to-end managed services to help enterprises to achieve their digital transformation.

Just like how they have been migrating their customer datacenters to Cloud, they wanted to migrate 4 of their datacenters located in the US as well to AWS. They wanted to strategize the AWS migration of datacenters based on their business considerations.

Challenges:

  • Discovering the servers with end-of-life OS for migration.
  • Identifying and mapping a large number of servers with applications.
  • Difficulty in prioritizing a large number of servers in the datacenters for migration.
  • Servers with different operating system locales (languages) had to be assessed.
The partner has been delivering Cloud assessment & migration services to its customers using Corent's MaaS. So invariably they used MaaS to assess their datacenters for the feasibility of AWS migration.

Solutions:

  • EOL advisories were provided for suitable Windows servers, databases, and app servers—that enabled them to migrate to the latest OS or workload versions.
  • Identification of workloads and their dependency mapping for advanced migration planning.
  • Prioritization of servers for migration based on the complexity identified using the intelligent algorithm of MaaS.
  • Discovery of servers with end-of-life OS and high CPU, network, and storage utilization rate for performance improvement.
  • Vanguards were used to assess the servers without affecting the performance of production environment while complying with the security measures configured.

Benefits:

  • Comprehensive communication & dependency mapping among servers.

  • Smart replatforming advisories for servers with end-of-life OS.

  • PaaS and other advanced Cloud service recommendations for AWS.

  • Performance optimization suggestions for servers with multiple applications.

Result:

The partner analyzed their datacenters successfully within a short time using MaaS and generated Cloud assessment reports that provided key information about their servers for AWS migration. They were able to develop an overarching Cloud migration strategy using the meaningful insights extracted from these reports for the AWS migration of their datacenters.
